Toyota Unveils 2024 Alphard and Vellfire Minivans with Powerful Engines

Toyota has taken the wraps off its latest minivans, the fourth-generation Alphard and Vellfire models. These spacious vehicles, built on the TNGA-K platform, come with a unique feature of steps on both left and right sliding doors, making entry and exit easier. With a length of 4995 mm (196.6 in) and a wheelbase of 3000 mm (118.1 in), the boxy minivans offer ample space. The Alphard and Vellfire can accommodate up to six people in a comfortable 2+2+2 layout.

Toyota has positioned these minivans as “luxury saloons” and has equipped them with several noteworthy features. The interior boasts a large overhead console that stretches from front to rear, incorporating various controls, ventilation, and side lighting. The vehicles also introduce pull-down sunshades and newly developed seats designed to reduce vibrations and provide enhanced comfort. Thanks to the improved rigidity of the new architecture and increased sound-deadening materials, noise levels inside the cabin are reduced.

Under the hood, customers have a range of powertrain options. The Vellfire stands out with a turbocharged 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine generating an impressive 275 hp (205 kW) and 316 lb-ft (430 Nm) of torque. The Alphard offers a hybrid variant based on a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with a combined output of 250 hp (184 kW). Lower-end Alphard models come with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine producing 180 hp (134 kW). Transmission options include a CVT, an e-CVT, or an eight-speed automatic.

Toyota aims to sell 8,500 units per month, with the Alphard accounting for 70 percent of sales and the Vellfire making up the remaining 30 percent. Pricing for the Alphard ranges from 5,400,000 yen to 8,720,000 yen (approximately $38,000 to $61,400), while the Vellfire is priced between 6,550,000 yen and 8,920,000 yen ($46,100 to $62,800).

In addition to traditional ownership, Toyota offers the option to temporarily own the minivans through its KINTO subscription service, starting from 50,490 yen ($355) per month for the Alphard and 63,800 yen ($449) per month for the Vellfire. Interested customers in Japan can already place their orders for these models.
