A photo of a unique double-decker airplane seat design has taken the internet by storm, causing a major divide among people over whether they would choose to sit in it.
The Chaise Longue Airplane Seat prototype, created by Alejandro Núñez Vicente, gained attention last year. Now, at just 23 years old, Vicente has revealed an updated version of the seat at the Aircrafts Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany.
Vicente, a graduate of Brunel University London, began working on the double-decker seat concept back in 2019 while still in school.
The latest discussion surrounding this seat revolves around a rather funny topic: farting. People are debating whether the design could lead to uncomfortable situations for both the person passing gas and the person sitting below.
Additionally, some have pointed out that the bottom seat offers more legroom, creating a dilemma for potential passengers who value comfort.
While many people are skeptical and say they would pass on the seat, there are still some who are open to it. They argue that the extra legroom provided by the bottom seat is too tempting to resist, regardless of the farting concern.
Apart from the fart-related debates, others have raised concerns about feeling cramped in the bottom seat when the top seat is reclined.
In response to the backlash, Vicente, the accomplished airplane seat designer, expressed to CNN that “there’s no such thing as bad publicity” and acknowledged that people often resist change and innovation initially. However, he believes that as the idea is further developed and showcased, people will gradually become more accepting of it.
