Volkswagen’s special edition Golf R 333, a souped-up version of its popular compact car, created a frenzy among car enthusiasts in Germany. The powerful all-wheel drive hot hatch was recently unveiled, and it became an instant hit. Within a mind-boggling eight minutes of going on sale on June 2, all 333 units were snapped up, leaving no chance for local buyers to get their hands on one.
Priced at €76,410 (approx AUD $123,000), the Golf R 333 was even more expensive than Volkswagen’s flagship Touareg crossover. But that didn’t deter eager customers from splurging on this limited edition model. With nearly 42 cars sold every minute, it was an incredible display of demand.
The Golf R 333, based on the Golf R Performance, stands out with its eye-catching Lime Yellow Metallic color and a black roof. It boasts 19-inch alloy wheels and special 333 graphics. Inside, the lucky owners will enjoy luxury features like matrix LED headlights, Nappa leather seats, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system. The car also comes with advanced safety features like adaptive cruise control, emergency assist, and lane assist.
Interestingly, despite its name, the Golf R 333 doesn’t have more power than its predecessors. It packs the same 333 ps (328 hp/245 kW) as the 2022 Golf R 20 Years edition. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) in a quick 4.6 seconds and has a top speed of 270 kph (168 mph).
Volkswagen plans to start production of the Golf R 333 later this year, with deliveries expected to begin in October. The automaker considers it a potential collector’s item, adding to its appeal among car enthusiasts.
While some may feel disappointed about missing out on this exclusive model, there are other high-performance options available from competitors. In the United States, for example, one can consider the BMW M3 Competition xDrive, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, or even Audi’s Q8 or RS 5 Sportback.
The Golf R 333’s success demonstrates the strong demand for Volkswagen’s compact cars, and enthusiasts will be eagerly waiting to see what the company comes up with next.
